Who Are You Serving?

Updated: Jun 8, 2019

By Helen L. Green / June 2019 post

No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other…" ( Matthew 6:24).

Are you a child of God, children of light representing kingdom of God or the kingdom of Satan as children of darkness? (Ephes. 5:8; Colossians 1:13). Do you really know who you are serving?

Imagine watching a professional athlete on television playing either football, basketball, or baseball trying to play position on his team and the opposing team at the same time. Impossible! Likewise as Christians, there’s no way we can serve two masters! We have a defeated adversary who has already been given a death sentence and realizes his time is running short. Therefore, he’s not to be underestimated, for he will use any schemes, tactics or individuals close to use to destroy those who oppose him. However, if you are a child of God, you have been called to serve on a victorious team! Therefore, you must serve God with your whole heart, mind, soul, and strength unwavering not compromising to the god of this world (2 Cor. 4:4).

Children of God, do you recall the first time you accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior? Being on fire running to church praying, witnessing and reading your Bible. You would share the gospel to just about everyone who came around you telling them about the goodness of God and his love. However, as time passed, you went from hot, to lukewarm, to cold for various reasons: life, hurt or discouraged by imperfect church people. You started making excuses about attending church, witnessing, praying reading your Bible, and fellowshipping with other believers. What happened? Revelation 3:15-16 reads, “I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish you were one or the other! But since you are like lukewarm water, I will spit you out of my mouth!" God hasn't changed, for He's the same yesterday, today and forever. He hasn't left us, for He has promised to never leave or forsake us. Many are falling away and losing their joy, peace and faith in God while God is calling us to return to our first love (Rev. 2:4). Some have become spiritually dry just going through the motions weekly routines. But not walking in the full power and authority given as a child of God instead distracted with television, social media, itchy ear sermons being tossed to and fro like popcorn popping from place to place.

It's time to wake up from slumber and choose wholeheartedly whom we will serve! Just look at the calendar and see how quickly time is going by. We are already in the 3rd month of 2nd quarter of 2019! We also seeing an increase of catastrophic natural disasters happening all over the world (all creation is groaning-Romans 8:22).

As a child of God have you share the gospel with anyone since January 2019 to present? Are you sensing the urgency to witness to an world that’s getting darker and darker with no hope and lost? “It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment..." (Hebrews 9:27). Have you become distracted and discouraged consumed by the things of this world in which we are not to be conformed to (Rom. 12:2). Becoming so consumed with social media getting into debt trying to compete be like the so-called “Joneses.”

Matthew 16:26 states, "For what does it benefit anyone to gain the whole world, but lose their soul in the process." As a child of God, we have been called out of darkness to give hope to those who are spiritually blind and point them to Jesus Christ. We are to be the salt of the earth to live a fruitful and victorious life that people will thirst for what we have and ask, "What must I do to be saved?" Wake up from slumber the harvest is plentiful time and GO into the highways and byways reaching those who are lost, and be about our Father’s business.

During these perilous times, God is calling His people to repent and pray for a world in need of healing, forgiveness and restoration as stated in 2 Chronicles 7:14 “…if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and heal their land."

It's time to choose who we will you serve! It’s time for the body of Christ to wake up from spiritual slumber and be watchful for time is of the essence. When Jesus went to the garden of Gethsemane to pray, he asked Peter, James and John to go with him to watch and pray, as his soul was overwhelmed with sorrow. Yet, three times he returned to find them sleeping and asked, "Are you still sleeping and resting? Could you not keep watch and pray for one hour?" (Mark 14:37-41). Also, Mark 13:35-37 reads, "…keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back __ whether in the evening, or at midnight… if he comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping…Watch!" When Jesus returns will you be found sleeping and risk being left behind? Tomorrow could be too late to decide who you will accept and serve “…today if you hear his voice don’t harden your hearts against him…” (Hebrews 3:15). If you do not know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, please go to home page of this website read the “Prayer of Salvation.”

Don’t waste any more time, wavering between two masters. If Jesus is your Lord and Master, follow him! IT'S TIME TO CHOOSE!

"…Choose you this day whom you will serve; …as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD” (Joshua 24:15).
