There are so many distractions in the world today with increased technology… cell phones, iPad, laptops, video games, reality shows, FB, IG, Snap Chat, selfies, etc. Many are on diet programs, working 2-3 jobs, frantically running around, stressed, overwhelmed and literally becoming sick. At times, many of us expect God to answer our prayers in a "right now" microwave, rub the Jeanie quick fix mentality when they want something. Yet, don’t spend time with Him in prayer, reading and studying the bible unless something drastically happens then ask themselves “Where’s God”?
In Luke 10:38-42, we read how Martha became overwhelmed, anxious and frustrated by all that she was doing concerned with preparations that had to be made when she opened her house welcoming Jesus and his disciples. She was so busy with all the planning, cleaning, and cooking while her sister Mary chose to sit at the feet of Jesus and listen to what He was saying. When Martha saw Mary sitting at His feet she became upset and complained to Jesus that He didn’t care that Mary wasn’t helping her. Jesus replied, “My dear Martha, you are so upset over all these details of preparation. There is really only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it and I won't take it away from her."
What’s frustrating and overwhelming you so that you are becoming upset, murmuring and complaining? We are living in times much more distracting and busy than Martha’s time whereby it's imperative that we slow down like Mary and be still and rest in God reading and meditating on His word. We also need to take better care of our physical bodies/temples (1 Cor. 6:19) by getting plenty of rest, eating healthy, exercising and drinking plenty of water (body is 70% water). Otherwise like Martha, we become anxious, worrying and busy with many things, although it is written "… do not worry about your life, what you shall eat, drink, wear or even tomorrow" (Matt. 6:25-34). We serve a God who will take care of all our needs, if we will just seek Him first (Matthew 6:33). Many people such as myself love this time of year Spring/Summer seasons beautiful warm sunny weather, vacation trips, and gardening, however; the grass grows and the flowers bloom it’s written "The grass withers, and the flowers fade, but the word of our God stands forever" (Isaiah 40:8) everything is temporal, but God’s word.
It’s easy to lose focus and become like a hamster on a wheel going round and round never catching up instead overwhelmed and frustrated. If you are a child of God you have been selected and called for a purpose (Rom. 8:28-30). Quality time, fellowship, and relationship with our heavenly Father is vital to living abundant life victoriously. Therefore, like Mary make time and choose that which is best balance, put aside the consuming preparations and distractions make time to sit down resting at the Master's feet, pray, release and listen to what He has to say. He's patiently waiting and calling you to come!
